Why are there not trust levels?

I may just wondering why there are not trust levels in the forum. Other discourse communities have them, and I have seen a lot. I would like to see trust levels, because they would be nice as something to look forward to. Now it's a little confusing to see who has what access. Scratch has "New Scratcher ("New to Scratch" in the forums)" and "Scratcher".
I think this should be implemented. By the way, if any of you see a better place to put this, tell a moderator to move it. I did not see a better category.

This could be better placed in Snap! Feature Requests. Also, you can move it yourself.

There is already somewhat a trust level feature, but only in the forums. Right now, I'm a regular user and you're a new user.

There are trust levels. As a new user, for example, one cannot post images or links.

(By the way, it is weirdly hard to find this page, so I am not surprised that you didn't notice it)

Ok I will move it.

What are the levels?

I'm not sure, exactly. But I know that there are "new user" and "regular", probably some sort of admin level, and I think I saw somewhere something about a lower level for bots and spammers.

The other thing I want to know is how to move the post.
I don't think I can as a new user.

EDIT: I can now! I did.

As far as I know, there is:

Name Description
New user You've just joined Snap! and its forum and you don't have many abilities yet.
Basic user You have basic knowledge and have gained some trust from the moderators of Snap!.
Member You have good knowledge and are seen as a full member of Snap!.
Regular You know more about Snap! more than members.
Leader You are a developer or moderator of Snap!.

Oh, yeah, no editing as a new user.

Hoo boy

There are trust levels, but the only ones that actually make a difference, are new user and basic user, the rest are pretty much the sane. The reason for this, is because the new user trust level has restrictions to minimize bots and spammers.

It is good to note that you shouldn't worry about trust levels at all, since they do not matter on this forum. The snap devs want us to talk about snap, create and share projects, and ask for help with snap. They don't want users trying to get to the next trust level as fast as possible.

Basically, don't worry about trust levels, instead focus more on creating and sharing snap projects.

Ok, but one more question. do you know how to get to the next level?

Just be active on the forum, and you'll go up soon (I don't know the time-frame, since it's not very consistent).

Got it. (If I was on Scratch, I would close the topic, but the trust levels...)

Only devs can close topics.

Gotit

It's different on Scratch.
Scratchers can close their own topics after 24 hours.
Also, isn't it funny how "New users" can't flag?

Personally I think it's good that snap users can't close their own topics, because if they find a solution to their problem and close it, no one can add to the solution, or give a better solution. It just allows for more discussion, and less frustration. If a topic gets out of hand, a dev can close the topic and delete posts.

Of course topics in some categories do automatically close 1 month after the last reply, mainly just to prevent necroposting. Plus, if a topic goes by 1 month after the last reply, that usually means that the topic is done anyway.

The Discourse software has several trust levels, but we are trying hard not to have a social-media feel here. (Insert rant about evils of social media here.) It's important to distinguish first-day users from everyone else, because we do get commercial spammers regularly, but apart from that we don't want newcomers to feel less wanted than old-timers. (Welcome! by the way.) So all the trust levels other than the first-day one are equivalent in power. If we had the time and energy to go messing around with Discourse we'd just remove all that level stuff.

(It's not literally based on your first 24 hours; it's some amount of reading and/or posting done. But "first day" is the intent.)

Hmm... @bh I just feel like the "New user" level lasts to short. In Scratch, the "New Scratcher" rank lasts a
MINIMUM of 2 weeks!
