How about the scratch cat as an ally,and maybe the twitter bird as a boss,and finally the pixiart heart as an item
what about items? powerups? tools? weapons(fake ones like an air gun or something)?
Food items and other things from the costume library?

The bells, heart candy and key would all be key items (crucial to the story). The rest are food.
maybe the food can be dorayaki buns, but they aren't from costume library so maybe
fortune cookie that will give you hints for the level or something

and maybe alonzo has a cigar(as an item) and then throws it into Frank Freakbar's mouth to end the boss fight like the story goes in PYOP: Frank Freakbar's First Meeting

In the second phase of the fight between Frank Freakbar, Frank Freakbar could use his jetpack and maybe pee at alonzo mouth, kinda like a scene of PYOP: Yoshi goes to Israel where Yoshi and a blue male Birdo meet up with Frank Freakbar and Frank Freakbar is flying with his jetpack and is threatning Yoshi by telling him that Frank Freakbar will pee in Yoshi's mouth.
