Snap! Legacy

its really janky when i try to do networking and windows 95 is really broken on the wii (probably a dosbox problem)

what :joy:

i tried that but couldnt get it to work

They didn't break snapinator, the original creator just hasn't updated it. Also, it does still work, you just have to load the project file from your computer.

Yes, codification is broken in the dev version, but it still works in the current 9.1.1 release (for the most part, for some reason string mapping doesn't work).

About adding snap legacy to the footer, it really just comes down to demand. I doubt there are many people that are still on old computers with an old browser. If there are users complaining about comparability, then they might consider adding it.

well, im on a mac os that is older then me and cant update past chrome update 15 or somethin like that.

lol

Ah, ok. There was just not really any evidence before that there are users that are stuck on older browsers.

If snap legacy works better than the official snap release, then I guess it does make sense to at least mention snap legacy somewhere on the snap website.

wait! Is codification broken in dev?

Yeah

No fair using a dev-only bug in a rant like this. Codification works in the release version, and will work in dev any minute now, now that it's come to Jens's attention.

The other example you want besides Snapinator is Snapp!. Both of those are third-party software, and they're both unmaintained. But, see, both of them worked great for several years, through several major Snap! releases... until their authors lost interest or got full-time jobs or something.

So, maybe instead of adding another of those, which will work great (I'm assuming you're both eager and competent to keep up) for a decade or so and then (based on those examples) die, we should just never include any third-party software! That is, we should resolve your point by removing Snapinator and Snapp! from the footer rather than add Legacy.

I'm not announcing a decision that's been taken; I'm continuing the discussion--in good faith, I hope. But it's a proposal we're talking about among ourselves too.

could you give me an example? It seems to work for me.

Wait, actually it works if you map it using the map to code block, but not when right clicking a block > code mapping... and typing in the code.

Oh, I see, it does work alright unless you use the bootstrapped "customized primitives". Yeah, those are still - and will be for a loooong time - under heavy construction. I'm not even sure they'll ever make it into an actual production release. Thanks!

I'm not customizing the block at all.
codification

(it's supposed to animate. If it doesn't, drag the image into a new tab)

Slightly unrelated, but Snap! 10 looks like it will be an amazing release!

The built-in blocks in the v10 palette can be either set to be "primitives" or "customized primitives" (which is currently, for dev purposes, the preset).

Leaving Snap. Good luck you all. Project will be up, and will be updated automatically every release Snap! is getting.

nooo dont leave i like your projects :((((

....

press the home button?

Ok, I just stared it on GitHub

I'm sorry you feel that way. Nobody is trying to insult you or your work. I think you're a valuable contributor to the community. The question of what goes in the footer isn't about the quality of your work.
