Anti-remix and anti-editing maneuvers are so so much in the same spirit as code obfuscation. Making it difficult on purpose for people to experiment and toy with your code is frustrating and just a shitty practice.

It's not only against the spirit of Snap! to try and prevent people from editing your project but also super hard to achieve. Someone can just set that variable to false again, can remove the code by editing the XML, or whatever! There's absolutely no security.
