Trying to make an object the same color as the pen color

Hi, for a painting programm i want to make an object to show the pen color all the time. I know how to do the rest, but i have no idea, how i make an object change into a specific color. I tried to make it with the effects, but it dont work.

Could someone help me by this problem?

If you make the image all red, you can then use color effects like this.

But if the costume is a square, you can just do this
