So technically an update is the same as free dlc and a paid update is also dlc
Any addition to a game after its initial release that you have to download is dlc
And “free dlc” sounds more enticing than “update”

You can download it. But like with game consoles if you go back online you have to update to the newest version

well yeah you can download the file to the game you still have to play online unless you download a launcher and it be much easier to play online but it would definitely be called an addon
i feel like dlc is a bad term in general a game is content you can download so is it a DLC
