I don't see the destructive criticism. If you mean criticism of Emacs, which is a real-world program written by adults, I think (1) it's okay to criticize such software, and (2) they were joking anyway! In response to my saying "Text editors can always be improved. Except for Emacs."
As for advertising, I dunno, is it not okay to announce a remix of the project at the beginning of the thread? I'm willing to learn if I'm missing something here.
