Question about chat system

Is having a chat system okay IF you can only send pre-written messages (ie safe chat), such as "Hello!", "Wow!", "Do you like waffles?", etc.? I want to make a 3D hangout map with safe chat so that people as a group can play minigames, do parkours, and a lot more. Mods, if you're worried about people tampering with a response list, I can always assign the JSON to a website path.

I'm not sure, I once made a project like the chat system you described but it got taken down.

I suppose.

If you make it so that each response is just a number that corresponds with a message in a list, there's not really a reason to make the list external, since if a user modifies their local list, it won't change for anyone else.

Oh, that's a way better workaround than I thought.

Unlike that other time, this proposal is to enable only a small set of canned messages. I think that's safe both in law and in fact.

Yes, by prior off-site arrangement kids could pick two of the messages for dot and dash and then send arbitrary text in Morse, or something, but that means they're already having off-site communication to set that up so they don't need us as a medium.

There have been discussions about this before that leads to it not being safe.

I believe Jens was crystal clear on the consequences of any sort of message passing whatsoever

It might be worth noting that scratch also has a rule against online chat projects, but scratchers have been able to do the, "predefined messages" method, and that's perfectly allowed. It's just free chat that isn't allowed.

Also, this proposal is public, I'm pretty sure, while Jens' ultimatum is specifically private. Anyone could log on to the project and see the messages being sent. Would it change your mind if, instead of text, it was just, say, 5 emojis? :tada: :raised_hands: :rage:

This subject has been done to death over the years so not going to go over them once again

I'm simply pointing out the clear and unambiguous words of one of the lead developers.

That’s completely different, the one in that discussion was direct messages and wasn’t public, and you could pretty much freely type anything (there was a drop down but you could string together things and also input any number)

So do you think that network programming i.e. multiplayer is prohibited?
And sending data to a published MQTT topic, to be read by other users/projects is against the rules of Snap/Forum?

No

No unless used for chat

To repeat

FTAOD

In this thread, my 1st reply was to simply point out to the OP that ANY sort of chat messaging WHATSOEVER has been prohibited and will result in them being banned by one of the Snap! devs

private

"Private"

Although personally I find the present proposal unobjectionable, clearly there is some disagreement here and I'm not sure the benefits are worth rocking the boat for. :~(

It could be read by anybody if they joined
