If the bullets did 10 damage, then it would be basically impossible to survive for any significant amount of time. Further on in the game, like 200, 300 seconds in, bullets are all over the place. The point of the bullets isn't to do a ton of damage, it's to slowly drain your health so that you can't survive indefinitely.

I just ignore the bullets. I guess it does make sense to drain your health, but by health 200 it is physically impossible to dodge the bullets without hitting more bullets. It is an infinite fight after all. All the bullets do is put a timer on you run. If bullets were less frequent and did 5 damage then they would be an obstacle you would have to overcome instead of a timer.

That's also what I did for a while. For a great score, dodging the bullets, even if they do small damage, is essential, as that damage adds up. And when you're really far in, and only have 10 health left or something, those bullets feel a whole lot more deadly.
(In case you're curious, my highest is 400 seconds or so on n1, and about 240 seconds on n4)
And, as for the obstacle part, there's already so many different kinds of lasers that there's probably enough obstacles.
(It would also be really annoying to change, because the bullet spawn rates are based on weird logarithmic function nonsense that I barely even understand, but produce the gradual increase I was looking for.)

No clue what that's all about. The most trouble I've had is lag while working on it, much less that. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
