I found alternate ways of writing the lambda!

I found a symbol that looks similar to the lambda sign (λ). Here's how to get it:

  • Go to Windows Character Map, enable Advanced View, then go to Unicode "5165".
  • Use your Pinyin typing method (Chinese), then type "ru". You should find a 入.
  • Type 入 in the forums.
  • Unicode (20837) as letter
  • Do the stroke orders "丿丶" in a stroke-order keyboard. You should get a 入.

...and many more methods.

Basically, this symbol "入" (rù), is the Chinese word for "enter". However, for me, it looks very similar to the lambda symbol (compare: 入λ).

Interesting, right. You may use this symbol if using the normal lambda didn't work.

RU IS LAMBDA IN MANDARIN

"ru" that looks like the lambda (入) is listed in the 2nd option.

there are also a zillion other chars that look like that, e.g. 人, 八。but honestly the big problem with this method is that the 拼音 keyboard takes forever to download. I would suggest just typing in "enter in chinese" and it should appear as the second character as part of 进入。

I actually found another one, KANGXI RADICAL ENTER (U+2F0A), which appears the same (⼊). Can you find another character?

Can't you just use ^U 5165 (control shift u)? 入

Last time I used Windows (maybe it just was a quirk of Cywin/X?) I could use that keyboard shorcut. You could also just type .\ or, better yet: λ.

Yeah, exactly. If you're going to use non-Latin Unicode characters, there's no need to go for Chinese; Unicode has the Greek alphabet too!

Of course if you're a Chinese speaker and your keyboard is already set up for Chinese, then yes, this is a nice hack.

or you can
:lambda:
:lambda:

You can also find some lambdas in the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols Unicode block:

𝛌 𝜆 𝝀 𝝺 𝞴

Cool! I haven't heard of those characters yet. Can use it when needed.

Some notes

However, those characters are outside of the BMP (basic multilingual plane), so they will not work on Scratch comments and forum posts.

But… it’s literally there

i think they meant scratch forum posts

oh. yeah.

you can also use ^U 03BB to get this: λ
(idk if this will work for windows users, i use linux)

Hey, I do too!

currently a windows user but planning to switch (bacuase windows takes up 25% of my hard drive :exploding_head:)

as long as you dont play any games with strict anticheats its not hard to switch

i also found this unicode character: ⋋
it looks pretty similar to a lambda from what i'm seeing
this one was from @coder_07's scratch signature

it looks like a lambda if it was in some futuristic/angular font or maybe some ancient runes or something
