It's most likely because you don't have the Brush Script MT font installed (which is what this project uses).
Idk if it is an OS thing or a browser thing...
Win10 + chrome = ok for me

One quibble: Although the final appearance on the stage is correct, the oversize characters in motion have their bottoms chopped off if they have descenders.

That's exactly what I've got. IDK if this makes any difference, but I'm using an HP desktop.
Hmm. You two are getting different fonts. Look at the height of the crossbar in the "e"; yours is about midway down the curved part, while @nerdiot's is way high up, suggesting to me that that font is Baskerville, or a near relative. Nothing about yours jumps out at me; it could be any modern serif font, to my inexpert eyes. (No doubt my phone could look at it and tell me...)
Well, of course. @nerdiot is using Windows, and I'm using Linux. I don't have all the fonts Windows has because I haven't bothered to find every one and install it. My Firefox settings say it's Noto Serif.
