Answered myself. The camera is literally the device's (laptop in this case) camera not a copy of the "stage" in png form. I notice that the camera icon is greyed out after I attempt to use it to copy the stage. The icon should probably be greyed out by default until the program under construction attempts attempts to access the camera.
So, I run the example py-fractal program and the camera icon fails suggesting some browsers may require HTTPS.
I'm using Chrome 77.0.3865.120 and using HTTPS, Where else should I look for configuration items that might cause this failure?
