Then why are trying to get snap to have them if you think all programming languages should stop using them? That seems counterproductive.

Ah, ok.
To be fair, I think a lot of the error messages we display are useless, namely the ones we inherit from JS errors. I think a great task for an undergraduate, Jens, would be to chase them all down and either write a user-meaningful message or replace them with "internal error."
