textengine--from Scratch and scratch

Oh. I get it now.

It's a peculiar sequence, but it's possible to do some mathematical reasoning about its behavior for large n. For example, will it have any digits 7?

It's on the OEIS.

Now here's another sequence following the same pattern but starting with "0":

0
10
1110
3110
132110
1113122110
311311222110
13211321322110
1113122113121113222110
31131122211311123113322110
.
.
.

Edit: OEIS entry for this

Everything is on the OEIS. Even my favorite while a kid:
14, 18, 23, 28, 34, 42, 50, 59, 66, 72, 79, 86, 96, 103, 110, ...

Local stops on New York City Broadway line (IRT #1) subway.?

Yup. I grew up four blocks from the 96th Street stop, so this was my world growing up. Since then they've stopped referring to the trains by division, so I may be one of the few people left who know that "IRT" stood for "Interborough Rapid Transit." :~)

Ok.
