for those using paintdotnet
… or make it a responsibility shared between two persons.
Is there a tutorial on how to edit these templates?
Yeah, it's called the Adobe Photoshop tutorial. (Or whatever your favorite paint program is.)
The only thing I would suggest, is instead of having a pdf manual seperate, have it inline in snap, and have it use my favourite snap feature, the drag and drop, to take code from the manual, place it in snap and watch it work while you read the manual.
I’m trying to imagine what that would look like. Is it an existing Snap! feature?
No, It's something else, maybe not new, probably someone somewhere else has done it before, but new ideas require new explanations. I still think Snap! is a massive paradigm shift and people haven't figured it out yet. That's what I want to prove.
Really they should just give up on me and either make Jadga be in charge of documentation or make SAP hire another person to do it. But I selfishly don't want that. :~/
Hire me, the completely under qualified and under trained crackpot. (Don't do that lol)
But seriously, You're fine, but you probably do need an assistant or even a team to help.
What I need is to not be depressed. I'm working on it...
You’re also a psychologist, aren’t you? So you must know self-blame isn’t helpful. Asking for help / teaming up is.
Yeah, that's quite a task though. I mean I get it, I absolutely suffer from that too, very much so...
But I suspect finishing the reference manual is going to be a FAR easier task than beating depression, because that's a long, long, long term thing, and the manual is short-term. I mean it's not because you'll need eventually to write an 11.0 and a 12.0 version and so on, but broken down a year at a time, it's still a short term issue and it's linear, unlike depression.
Keeping in mind I am far, far, far from an expert on psychology
Yeah, thanks, both of you. I did ask for help with respect to help screens. As for the manual, in 45 minutes I have a meeting with some colleagues about moving from MS Word into some format like TeXInfo that can produce an HTML version as well as a printable version, with the goal of putting it on github and making it possible for others to contribute. (This is a hard thing for me to do, because I want it to be beautiful, and each time I release a new version I end up putting way more effort into getting the pages pretty than into the actual content.)
And I did ask for help about logic programming and about streams! ;~)
I don't think I can just subcontract the manual on the forum, though, because technical writing is a skill that's rare even among adults and pretty much nonexistent among kids.
I'm getting help about the depression, too. (You can't be your own therapist no matter how much you know about psychology!)
As for the relative difficulty of curing depression vs. writing the manual, yeah, sort of, but you have to understand that it's a challenge for me to put the dishes in the dishwasher. (Newfangled dishwashers take > 2 hours to wash the dishes, and by then I've eaten more, so those dishes end up on the counter, plus emptying the clean dishwasher takes me a day or so, and once there's a big pile of dirty dishes on the counter it's an effort to put them in the dishwasher, much easier just to add to the pile.) And until the past few years I was a real neatnik; I used to yell at my kid for leaving dishes around. And I used to pay the bills as they came in, and balance my checkbook, and actually read credit card statements and compare them to the saved sales slips. So, actual productive work is way beyond me!
Except for moderating the forum, because I like kids better than adults so this is my social life...
See it from the bright side: if you can combine having a social life with helping others, you're blessed!
