How to enable block typing using keyboard?

My stupid touchpad froze up again. And I don't have a mouse. How do I enable block typing? Surely there must be a way to enable typing without a mouse/touchpad. I actually don't know why that feature is there in the first place. I think it's an accessibility feature? But I tried every key combination of CTRL + key and there doesn't appear to be anything.

btw if you're wondering how i made this topic without using any type of pointer device i used TAB, SHIFT + TAB, SPACE, ENTER and CTRL + a number to switch tabs

you can toggle keyboard-entry mode by pressing and holding the shift-key and then pressing the enter-key.
