Dan Garcia and Brian Harvey win the ACM Karlstrom Award

Congratulations, @bh ! (I din’t know Dan Garcia, or if he reads posts on this forum)

He's a Berkeley colleague, another Teaching Professor like me (but still active, not Emeritus like me). He was the driving force behind BJC, and a national leader of the push to bring women and underrepresented minorities into computer science, of which BJC was a part. (It's in large part because of BJC that Jens wrote Snap!. He originally wrote BYOB as a proof of concept to show the Scratch Team, not thinking that anyone was actually going to use it. BJC inspired him to continue developing it, and BJC actually paid for a year of Jens's time to reimplement it as Snap!.) Dan is amazingly energetic and always has half a dozen projects cooking at once. It was he who roped me in to work on BJC in the first place.

OK, thank you for explaining. Congratulations to you as well, Dan!

This is incredible! Congrats!

Thanks!
