BTW: its limited to block input. Other elements, like the sprite name are not handled.
Why can't just just stick it on StringMorph
when in edit mode?
StringMorph does not cover the entire input area. There is no StringMorph in an empty input
The InputFieldMorph seems to be a way to go, but the interface differs.
The context menus for the Morph tree are not automagically merged. So additional steps will be required.
With the StringMorph the user experience will be terrible.
I just suggested that, because most of the places where you can click to edit text, is usually just a DtringMorph
. Plus, if you hand picked a bunch of morphs for it, then you will most likely miss many, and the user experience would not be good.
If you want to see how much better it would be, I have added cursor changing on morphs in my snap mod, which makes all editable StringMorph
s have the text cursor. It's not as bad as you make it out to be.

I'm quite happy with @dardoro userscript for the moment to copy/paste from slots
But hopefully, it'll be considered for inclusion into the main code base one day, so that every Snapper can benefit from it
