This is really cool! I did have to turn down my brightness because of how bright it was, not complaining.
This is interesting. Something I didn’t see explained in the article is that the illusion depends on the buses moving in visible spurts. For me, setting the variable DELAY to 0.035 is enough to see the illusion, but at DELAY=0.03 the two buses move in sync.
Might be a good exercise for someone to redo it using glide instead of stepping to see what happens.

I remixed your version to add a slider for the time to glide. Below five seconds the motion looks smooth to me. So it’s not that the motion has to be jumpy, but that the sprites have to move slowly.
