Split! - Snap! but Scratch (Part 5)

be my guest! fyi i have some queued up that i’m gonna make, those being

  • Neural Networks
  • Animation
  • SciSnap! V3
  • Metaprogramming
  • List Utilities
  • Iteration, composition
  • Bignums, rationals, complex #s
  • Catch Errors
  • Database

so i can handle these ones.
also, if you need help polishing yours afterwards to better fit the Scratch style if you think something is off, i’d be happy to fix it for you!

I did houndstooth for Mobile Device Sensors [^:

ohh wait, are you essentially making concept art for me to use as reference when making some of the banners? if so, then that’s perfectly fine!
if you’re just showing off a basic version of what you are planning to make, then that’s also perfect! i just need to know so I don’t accidentally skip over any banners if the first case is true

I suggest that the banner has more than that. {OOP} is not really a proper object in most cases. Maybe an object with more utility like {"number": 42, "website": "Split!"} as a banner represents the library better. The point of the banner is to capture the idea visually. Leave the simple for the icon.

Just a suggestion, feel free to do what you want!

Yes I’m making concept art

Eek, I started that one when @angzarr_812new made his menus concept. Maybe we’ll see whose we like more?

tada

Can I help? I did the thumbnail for the Writing and Formatting library.

Here:

I think it’s better to not show the blocks. Instead, show rules and different fonts around the text. It’s hard to explain, so I might do this myself

Since sans serif is the default font for WRITE, I think it’d be better to have serif in the example, to show the benefit of the library.

reiteration of my lineup:

Completed

  • Colors
  • Code To Blocks To Code
  • OOP
  • Neural Networks
  • Menus

Lined Up / Planned

  • Animation
  • SciSnap! V3
  • Metaprogramming
  • List Utilities
  • Iteration, composition
  • Bignums, rationals, complex #s
  • Catch Errors
  • Database

also, some ‘standards’ or general ‘rules of thumb’ for anyone interested in helping

1. Simplify the purpose of the library into a small graphic element:

2. For making outlines, use a width of 20 and an opacity of 13

if your object has an outline, add 20 to it’s outline width and use that, as itll look weird otherwise:

3. Keep the background as a symbol pattern

you can use these templates below, or make one yourself:

4. Banners should be 600x372

why? idk it’s what scratch uses, so a consistency thing I guess. the banners can always be cropped afterwards ofc!

Honorable Mention: Use PenguinMod over Turbowarp or base Scratch

PenguinMod’s vector editor has better tools, such as merging and masking shapes, and some preset shapes like a block icon, speech bubbles, etc.

of course, all these ‘rules’ are optional, and are mainly just for consistency and readability across all the banners.

anyways,

i could do this if you want, i got nothing going on today :D

also, @d016, i’m thinking about making the banner developments a separate topic, as to not clutter the main topic with purely banner-related posts. though that’d make more clutter on the forum itself and could be seen as redundant… i’ll just get feedback from you guys on if i should do it or not!

Why???

Showing blocks can help with users knowing what the library looks like before even importing it.

Looks almost good. I agree with @bh that the example font just needs to be changed to preferably serif to demonstrate the font support of the library better.

In my opinion, I think it would look better if you add a transparent border around the block. Other than that, it looks really good!

@mctx_studios My original attempt at Iteration & Composition wasn’t really good, so I remade it. You can use it as concept art:

The arrows sorta look like a repost icon. I think it’d be better to have the loop arrow ⬏ by itself, and then maybe a two-arrows-with-same-tail symbol like the one that means “share” on phones. (I can’t find it in Unicode.) Oh sort of like this: ≺ only with arrowheads.

not bad! i’ll make some tweaks to it :D

also, i’m gonna

i recommend something more than just two arrows and a nested function.

I used scratch to design this.

I fixed it.
