Please make Snap! available in Sinhala

I’m a Sri Lankan person who uses Snap! :sri_lanka:
When I was using Snap, I was looking for a way to switch the language of the Snap community site, but it turns out it doesn’t support Sinhala.
I know the developers are working on Snap! v12. Hopefully, they might add the language to Snap! v12. :upside_down_face:

Forum inspiration:

If you want to know about the Sinhala language:

bye! :waving_hand:

I think you could technically make it yourself, unless you know some other sinhala speakers who are willing to translate snap.

okay but how?

In the Github repo, find the translation folder, look at the English (US) file, look at the German one for a pretty-much-always-up-to-date translation, and then make the Sinhala one following the same pattern. Basically the Nth line in each file is that language’s version of the same text. Make a branch for your translation and then file a pull request.

If you’re not into Github, ummm, find someone who is, I guess.

I have a GitHub account. If you want, please send me the link.

All the translations are in https://github.com/jmoenig/Snap/tree/master/locale, look for the lang-de.js file for the german translation

thanks.

This is part two of this forum :alonzo::

So, I’m currently making sinhala translations to Snap! using VS Code and Google Translate.

Credit to @bh, who suggested that I should download the file and edit it:

Click this lol

I am still making the translation file, I might finish it soon

I believe the devs specifically do not want google translate to be used/other translating platforms.

We want the translations to be done by a native speaker of the language. If such a native speaker were to use Google Translate as a first pass and then carefully examine every line of the resulting file, fixing any awkwardnesses, I don’t suppose we’d ever know. :~) But we don’t want anyone to turn in the output of Translate unedited! Or even partly edited. :~)

I understand! Thanks for the great explanation.

I did lol
