I'm trying to make a snap! mod

Well, I’m trying to make a Snap! mod called MonkeyIDE. But I need your help. I am needing people to help me make the best mod ever.. :orangutan:

Uh…

What do you want the mod to have?

If it’s just adding more blocks; then make those blocks directly inside :snap:! If the block requires something that can’t be done with vanilla snap (like detecting right-clicks) then you can study the source code and put your code into a JavaScript function \( [] @<:>\) \{ [] \} (assuming that you know JS).

If it’s something greater [like updating the UI to look more like Scratch (wink wink)] then study the big comment at the start of morphic.js. Get used to switching to dev mode all the time!

(Channeling Jens and also Simon…)

Folks, the forum is starting to be overrun by people wanting to mod Snap! instead of using it.

This particular instance seems to be from someone who doesn’t have a Snap! account, which isn’t supposed to be possible, so maybe it’s AI-generated spam and I should have just deleted the thread instead of responding to it.

But let me take the opportunity to encourage the posting of Snap! projects: cool games, mathematical explorations, build-your-own AI, Wordle playing programs, etc.

I was wondering why I got a notfication here until I realized you linked my last post for Split! specfically (the url contains the post if you scroll down enough)

The OP’s account was created back in 2024 also, and just only posted today. Perhaps, and I don’t know if this is possible - but maybe OP DID have a Snap! account, but it got deleted in some way? Or, there might’ve been a glitch BACK in 2024 that allowed a forum account without a matching Snap! one?

One red flag is that a curly quote was used instead of a straight quote (I checked the source code of the post).

Wait wait…

I’m getting it now…

Discourse automatically converted that apostrophie into a smart quote… so it’s probably not AI

I couldn’t agree more. Creating a snap mod is fine, but I love seeing people make stuff in snap more.

Here is the source text of each post:

I acquired the source text by replying to each and selecting “quote whole post”. This is how, for example, you can see that someone got Snap! with the exclamation point italicized like this: Snap<i>!</i>

I use Snap<em>!<\em>.

And meanwhile all of this, we haven’t got a single reply back from OP, @chinafanandytmv.

Also, is it possible that iOS auto-changes quotes?

I’m testing…

You’re right!

Oh boy, how a run-of-the-mill request for a Snap! mod done for a new user got hijacked into suspicions about "smart" punctuation...

If anyone despises these "smart" punctuation modifications, for iOS users, disable "Smart Punctuation" in settings. If you want your ASCII printed verbatim and free of the "smart" stuff, I might as well disable autocorrect and that setting that adds a full stop when hitting space twice.

AFAIK, "Smart Punctuation" converts hyphen-minuses into en- or em-dashes and makes the " key enter curly quotes instead of ASCII ones.

AI seems to prefer "smart" punctuation by default over ASCII punctuation.

it also looks like it changed the 3 dots (...) into an ellipsis () (unless you did that yourself)

yeah; that’s the iOS auto-correct thing.

I’m I’m

I’m a goofy goober! /ref
