So basically, you play as a young child named Tom, and you've lost your Mom. (That rhymes..)
and you have to go on this epic journey through dreams and reality, and you meet many different characters as you go, and eventually, you find that your mother was possessed by a demon type of thing- and, that's pretty much the basic story we have down.
