Can the process icon in the slot be moved over to the left 1 or 2 pixels?
I don’t know, because I’m not a huge fan of “hiding” blocks with collapsible drawers. I’d say that the category should be split in two; i’m not sure how though.
I can’t think of a way to make a roughly 50/50 split meaningfully. And I especially don’t like separating out the hat blocks, because you end up including the BROADCAST command next to WHEN I RECEIVE even though it isn’t a hat block.
I wouldn’t want to go to the extreme of making Control just a menu of drawers, but the more obscure recent collections of blocks (metaprogramming, scenes, etc.) could be in drawers. That’s not the same as hiding them! The whole idea of drawers is for them to look openable.

Of course they’d be closed by default; having them open by default would defeat the purpose! Is there some potentially drawered subcategory of Control that you always use in every project? It seems to me that if you’re writing a project hairy enough to use metaprogramming, for example, the one extra click to open the drawer will be down in the noise.
Plus, if the drawers stay open/closed between projects after each save, it’s even easier.
Or you could have a setting kind of like “long form input dialogue” but for drawers (but it might be nice to have some customization - I rarely use clones, for example).

I think that’s the case only if you always use the same subsets of Control blocks in all your projects. I would be more inclined to say that if you use ctrl-F to find a block that’s in a closed drawer, we open the drawer (just for this project).

You can’t have it both ways. :~) I’m perfectly happy to click the arrowhead to open a drawer when I need it, and even to click it again if I then want to hide the drawer. If you want us to serve you up a set of initially-open drawers, then sometimes you’ll get ones you don’t want in this project.

Hi Peter, and all. I think that I’m ready with my “Body Language” category of easy-to-use blocks. I’ve added them all to the “Edge AI” library (in dev). Feel free to check them out and let me know of any issues you run into. You might have to first delete your browser’s cached images and files to see the new library version in dev.
I am playing with a butterfly on the tip of my index finger. It is flapping it’s wings. In the same way you could for instance move the CoCube like you did in Olot. Now it is much easier for children to make commands.
I am always looking for very simple, easy little projects with maximum results. I already let the children play with a couple of projects that used the Edge Computer Vision library but that was only playing. Using it was to difficult. With this new library it is easier. In the end a Body Language library could contain the complete human body. Physiotherapists could make their own activities with this. You could get people with disabilities or for instance dementia moving again. Just by waving there hands things could happen. Adding sounds would make it even more fun. Grabbing fruit and dropping it in a basket, swatting flies (not to fast ofcourse), etc.
There are devices that respond to movement in healthcare but they cost thousands of euro’s. This way a laptop/webcam and big screen would be enough. I worked with young and old people with dementia for a number of years, and I know they would have liked this. I also worked for more than 20 years with people with mental impairment and they would have liked this too.
I’m sure some people will see themselves on a screen with a butterfly perched on their finger and instinctively look at their own hand to see if it’s there as well. ![]()
Yes! Those are great points, Peter. For a first version (for the German middle-school curriculum) I’m focusing on hand- and face- tracking, mostly because you can do it while literally sitting at a desk. But full-body gestures are totally supported, and I will extend the “Body Language” category with them eventually.
In the meantime, here are 5 quick-and-easy examples for the hand-tracking “Body Language” blocks that I’ve been playing with:

Each of these can be built with a dozen or less blocks and then developed into a larger project or game, and they have the pedagogical advantage of “getting the kid into their own project”. I hope we can use these for some interesting and engaging middle-school level activities.
