I was wanting to run something in my project which downloads the project itself. Any way to do this?

Yes, we can build a JS block to fire this download.
But the problem is the dependence on your browser. Depending on your browser settings, it will request you some questions (what to do with that file, where to store it...).
So, it's the same action (not automatic) than go to "Export project" option.
Anyway, if you want to test... the way is something like...
