drag a block into any of the slots, then drag it out. The color default will not be preserved. However, this will not happen if you do the same with the color is touching color primitive.

P.S. nice idea about the chess board block! I hope you didn’t manually create 64 color input slots and select alternating default colors for them (actually, I’m quite sure you didn’t, but I’d like to make sure everybody else here also knows), but instead - and this is an intended use for metaprogramming - wrote a little script that makes the chess-block for you:
thanks! of course I didn’t do it manually. Unfortunately translucent blocks do not actually show through the color of the color input when dropped over them, so I am not able to use color inputs for the chess block.
