I have seen so many Snap!pers share their projects, unaware that you are supposed to put them on the forums for feedback. Could we have a button, like Share to Forum, to post a project to share on the forum, so that people can ask for feedback?
Yeah, I agree.
Even though there is already a Forum button at the top of the site, I didn’t realize it until a year after.
You can share it on the forum for feedback, you don’t have to
I think what they mean is “In order to get feedback on your projects, you are supposed to put them on the forums.”
I think we should solve the underlying problem by implementing comments on project pages.
I agree, but that has been postponed for several years.
I agree.
It took me five days to realize it. In fact, it probably would’ve taken longer if @kingnico1133 didn’t tell me about it.
It sounds like a good idea, but it may introduce a new problem. Since some people haven’t been on the forums, they don’t have clear knowledge of site standards. Without that knowledge, it may release toxicity into their comments.
Maybe make them have the comments show the basic rules like in Youtube when they first type?
good idea honestly
Yeah I know, moderating comments is a nightmare I’m not looking forward to, but it’s clearly the right long-term solution; much better to have the comments linked to the actual project than to have ad hoc forum threads. Perhaps we could, as on the forum, require preapproval of a user’s first few comments.
On the other hand, the forum is a nice way to share your projects for people to see. On Scratch, most of my projects have basically 0 views, and that is because your projects aren’t very findable if you don’t have followers and other connections in Scratch. Obviously the greatest projects with the greatest thumbnails will show up in the “latest projects” listing (which is really hard to find) with everyone else but will collect views anyway, but I like how here you can post on the forums about your project to solicit direct feedback (because views aren’t the thing I’m actually concerned about, but they do tie into there being people to give feedback).
I mean, there’s nothing stopping you from still sharing here
Point taken. I’m convinced, showing projects on the forum has its virtues also.
On the third hand, showing projects on the forum works only because not many people do it. If we were to succeed at making the forum much better known, then every time you logged in you’d see 100 new share-your-projects messages and it’d be just as bad as finding things on the Scratch home page. You can’t win.
Well, yes you can; we could strongly encourage everyone to give their projects three or four tags, and you could filter your notifications for the tags you’re interested in. We could easily even add a “new tags this week” page so you don’t miss tags that you didn’t know to include in your preferences because no projects had that tag before. (By “easily” I mean not that the programming would be easy; it might or might not. But once programmed, that feature would be automatically maintained; it wouldn’t require moderation time and effort.)
I didn’t think of that…
I do think comments would be a nice feature, but I see how that could get out of hand, and I understand why we haven’t seen that added.
Agreed.
