Asterisk* Snap! mod concept

working on this cool snap mod that adds specific features that i have in mind. however, i have no some modding experience, so i need some help.

ideas

add more blocks (obviously): pending…
add more categories: pending…

group different datatypes (strings, numbers, booleans) with color: pending…
make custom datatypes: pending…
custom block shapes for datatypes (like in snavanced): unimplemented
some extra libraries: unimplemented

bumpscosity setting (change bumpscosity of project): unimplemented
seperated variables-lists-other categories: complete!
seperated numbers-strings categories: complete!

fix that wasted space in the ‘costumes’ and ‘sounds’ tab: unimplemented

i’m hoping i get to learn how to mod snap and learn more about snap’s source code.

Uhhh… I don’t see why you would want more blocks and categories (you can just do that in regular snap)

extra libraries are cool, so is bumpscosity setting.

What? You want strings to be red and numbers blue?

I can understand why you want to seperate variables and lists, but you do NOT need to split numbers and strings!

Honestly I feel like the best mods aren’t mods that change or add blocks, but rather changing the ui, or something about the specific behavior of the ide. Snap already provides extensive support for custom blocks and categories, so mods adding those won’t bring anything new or interesting to the table. I really don’t see what new block shapes have to offer, cause every one I’ve seen so far is just a glorified reporter.

If you want to make a mod, I honestly think modifying the ui is the best and most interesting kind of mod.

I agree, my fav is Split!. But IMO they work better as userscripts.

Bro, sigue siendo un snap! normal

Well, it hasn’t been created yet…

Bueno, aún no se ha creado…

ahora vas a crear Asterisk*?

No, it’s not mine. It was made by @theaysnap
No, no es mío. Lo hizo @theaysnap.

Si es tuyo, va ser un collab

sigue siendo un snap normal, podis crear, Asterisk* ahora?

It isn’t mine’s, and whether it’s a collab is up to @theaysnap.

honestly, that a good point, now that i think about it… i might add some ui-related changes to the list later…

you might be able to take inspiration from unreal engine blueprints because it might be a little interesting.

a series of connected nodes… huh. great idea.

i might make a second editor that works with nodes instead of blocks, but

so this is gonna be hard.

you may have to look into the canvas apis and the Snap! sourcecode(mainly src/)

on top of that, i’m not familiar with the canvas api, and i’m not that familiar with morphs outside of changing specific properties for adts.

There are easy things in making a snap mod like changing the color of the blocks, adding more costumes, sounds and backgrounds/backdrops

yeah something like that

feast your eyes on THIS

Why would I ever want that? the input slot for numbers are round, and strings are square. what more could you ever want?

Actually, I love this. I despise the implicit conversion of numeric text to numbers, and this is a really good solution.

Since it is bootstrapped, why not make it a generic library for Snap!?
