Add Hebrew as an available language

Hi! I’d recommend adding Hebrew as a language for the Snap! website. I am new and came from CreatiCode, but I speak Hebrew and find it easier to undertsnad.

You are always invited to do the translation into Hebrew. Here you can find all the language files.

I guess @cycomachead can give you more info about translating.

Hi there! Absolutely would love to have Hebrew, though unfortunately no one on our team knows Hebrew.

If you’d like to contribute a translation we would be happy to help provide guidance.

@cycomachead I’d love to help translate! I also wondered why Armenian was added and not languages like Russian (which I only know Hebrew)

@cycomachead will tell you how to proceed. Great that you want to add another language to Snap! Since Snap! is an open source project mostly worked on by volunteers we also need volunteers to, for instance, contribute another language.

If you’re comfortable with GitHub, or learning it, the “best” way is to add a new file, like he.lua to the locales folder. Most people start by making a copy of this en.lua file and updating the translated text.

if you’re not comfortable with GitHub, you could send us a new file and we can upload it.

However, I am now recalling that Hebrew is a RTL and unfortunately we’ve only designed the site for LTR languages. I suspect most things will work OK, but we may need to think through some updates to the translation system.

Ok. Also, another two langs I know are Tok Pisin and Esperanto. I speak fluent them too. They are ltr. Also, I never used GitHub before or anything like it.
